Spring Rain 6/26/2025:
“Nonviolence is not a dogma; it is a process.” — Thich Nhat Hanh
“Spring Rain” posts are a collection of time sensitive or unique opportunities that we should take advantage of if we can. Past spring rain posts can be viewed here.
For a more complete view of ongoing ways to be involved, find the most recent Dandelion Report here.
Need inspiration rather than action at this moment? Take a look at my Sunflower posts here.
This Spring Rain Includes:
“The essence of nonviolence is love…” a quote from Thich Nhat Hanh
Several Upcoming National Protests/Rallies; June 28, July 4th, and July 17th
Thoughts on Drinking from a Fire Hose (And some bonus actions)
Quick emails to your representatives, using Resistbot Codes.
The essence of nonviolence is love…
“The essence of nonviolence is love. Out of love and the willingness to act selflessly, strategies, tactics and techniques for a nonviolent struggle arise naturally.
Nonviolence is not a dogma; it is a process. Other struggles may be fueled by greed, hatred, fear, or ignorance, but a nonviolent one cannot use such blind sources of energy, for they will destroy those involved and also the struggle itself.
Nonviolent action, born of the awareness of suffering and nurtured by love, is the most effective way to confront adversity.”
— Thich Nhat Hanh, from Love in Action: Writings on Nonviolent Social Change
Several Upcoming National Protests and Rallies
In many areas, there are ongoing protests which are still essential. However, if your time is limited, consider trying to at least attend some of these nationally coordinated protests.
We the People Dissent is now collecting data on what protests are ADA accessible, here is their current list of protests. Their new interactive protest map is also worth checking out.
These organizations may also be helpful to finding protest locations:
Saturday, June 28th: Tesla Takedown #MuskMustFall Event
Protests continue at Tesla showrooms across the country weekly, though June 28th is a push for a larger event, similar to the last one on March 29th.
Friday, July 4th: Women’s March’s Free America
Women’s March is coordinating 4th of July weekend actions across the country, including “rallies, marches, block parties, banner drops, street parades, art builds, backyard BBQs, dance protests, and more.”
Likely other groups will be coordinating other events celebrating freedom, independence, and resistance.
Thursday, July 17th: Good Trouble Lives On
Events being coordinated in honor of civil right leader and Congressman, John Lewis, and his legacy of “Good Trouble”. Events will likely focus on civil and human rights, collective action, and dignity for all.
Drinking from the Fire Hose
We live in a time with innumerable challenges and crises, and the rising response to the moment is likewise providing numerous opportunities to be involved.
I encourage you to find ways that you can easily be involved, because when personal life gets hard or the world’s problem’s feel overwhelming, sometimes simple tasks will be the only way to maintain our engagement.
Find what works for you; the past week or two, I have had much less capacity to be involved for various reasons — during a time like that, it is helpful to know what you can cut back on and what you can maintain without abandoning your drive to be involved, for example:
Some Actions I had to step back from:
Following the news: if I only have energy to take action OR follow the news cycle, I choose taking action.
Publishing this newsletter as much as I would like, I appreciate your patience.
Some of my volunteer obligations, sorry teams! I will be back soon!
Some Actions I was able to maintain:
Calling representatives most days with the 5 Calls App
Contacting representatives with Resistbot codes (see below)
Caring for the increased needs in my personal life while avoiding burnout and maintaining my mental health so I can return to being more engaged.
So be sure to know your limits, we all have to be ready and able to follow these issues going forward. Thank you all for carrying the work forward when I was unable to myself.
And if you have the time and energy, here are some bonus actions I have come across from Chop Wood, Carry Water, Rogan's List , and We the People Dissent:
Public Comment Period Deadline of July 3rd, on a proposed rule change that would make it easier to fire federal employees. Comment here, or read more here.
Rogan’s List’s amazing “Action Guide” for opposing the Budget Bill.
Indivisible’s call script on the Budget Bill for Republican Reps, or Democrat Reps.
Indivisible’s new Neighbor2Neighbor initiative, to help you engage 5 like-minded neighbors in ways to oppose Budget Bill cuts to vital programs.
New Boycott’s and Petitions on T-Mobile for financially partnering with Elon Musk, especially impactful if you are a T-Mobile subscriber.
Petition supporting National Institutes of Health Public Servants and scientific research, through the Bethesda Declaration.
Resistbot Emails to Representatives
Resistbot is a tool to quickly send emails to your representatives. Click the link to learn how to set up your account. Emails are much less effective than calling (I have seen some estimate that a call is worth 10 emails), but with Resistbot templates it is so fast it is worth doing in addition to calling.
Note: Resistbot is limiting free emails to 5 per day. You can send more by buying coins, or inviting new users.
I often will be able to send these emails while I make calls using The 5 Calls App.
To save space and to organize codes from all the past Spring Rains, all my used Resistbot codes can now be found in this Google sheets form.
If you are looking for more frequent updates on unique actions to take, or for phone scripts apart from 5 Calls App, you may want to consider Chop Wood, Carry Water or Rogan's List .
I am grateful you are here.
Thank you,
Chris
