While I strive to find the right balance of scope, length, and frequency, for spring rains here is a shorter one with two areas you can consider adding to your regular involvement.
I would love to hear from you if you would find smaller, more frequent spring rains helpful, or if you prefer a less frequent downpour of diverse options to choose from. Please let me know!
“Spring Rain” posts are a collection of time sensitive or unique opportunities that we should take advantage of if we can. Past spring rain posts can be viewed here.

Gandalf’s Advice
“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo.
“So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
— J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
Ways to Oppose the Budget Reconciliation
Currently, we in a time-sensitive window to be able to oppose and change the Budget Reconciliation Bill.
This is a time when constituents can make a big difference by speaking out. Although it has passed the house, it will most likely be amended in some way, meaning it will have to pass the house again. So call both your congressperson and senators.
Remember: you can call and email daily and offices will still tally each type of contact once per day, so contact them daily if you have the time and energy!
If you have Representatives who are Democrats:
Calling your representatives is still helpful, especially if you are highlighting one of the many lesser known aspects of the Budget Bill. The 5 Calls App has many useful scripts you can use.
Consider encouraging friends and family to call as well.
Phone-Banking to help engage constituents in critical districts could have a larger impact, here are some upcoming ones I am aware of (courtesy of
), though I am sure there are more:
If you have Representatives who are Republicans:
Even if you don’t think your representative will budge, it is still very helpful to call your representatives now! The 5 Calls App can make it easier.
Even if they ultimately vote for the Budget, you can help:
Remove some of the worst provisions.
Prevent adding more problematic provisions.
Slowing the process, allowing more people to speak out, more constituents to be mobilized. Time may be the factor we need in flipping some “yays” to “nays”.
If you have a Representative that you are sure will not budge, or you are already calling daily, consider encouraging friends and family, or Phone-Banking.
Below are some Republican Congresspeople who are more likely to be swayed, and what topics might be most convincing. List and graphic from Chop Wood, Carry Water from Defending America.
Make a Public Comment Against COVID-19 Vaccine Availability Restrictions
There was only a short window to make a public comment on this FDA rule change. However, despite that, 57,325 public comments have already been made. Public comments at worst delay changes being implemented, at best they open them up for review and additional scrutiny resulting that stops them.
Today is the last day to comment, by 5/23 at 11:59pm EDT

Resistbot Emails to Representatives
Resistbot is a tool to quickly send emails to your representatives. Click the link to learn how to set up your account. Emails are much less effective than calling (I have seen some estimate that a call is worth 10 emails), but with Resistbot templates it is so fast it is worth doing in addition to calling.
I often will be able to send these emails while I make calls using The 5 Calls App.
