“I am the earth” by Dr. Larry Ward
I am the earth, even when I wake up crying. These are the earth’s tears – the ocean of suffering belongs to her. I am the earth speaking to you now, and you are the earth listening with your precious ears. I am the earth walking through my doubts and fears and hopes and dreams and sadness and loneliness and joy. But I am also the rain falling and the birds singing with joys that bless the world. I’m getting washed all over by my tears and my hopes as rain continues to fall. I am celebrating the miracle of every earth breath, every earth sigh, every earth smile, every earth hug and every earth touch of kindness that brings me home. I am the earth, and so are you.
ICE Out for Good—Weekend of Action January 10th and 11th
ICE and CBP’s actions in our communities have been a big focus of my personal advocacy work, and it has been very upsetting to watch their actions over this past year—in particular, I found this report on the conditions people are being kept in by Amnesty International to be especially heartbreaking.
Part of my work in this area has been volunteering as a Legal Observer, along with friends, my partner, and many other community members. I described how this process works in some communities in the Spring Rain 5/16/2025.
This is why, in part, it was so upsetting to hear how ICE had murdered Renee Nicole Good on January 7th, as she was also an American citizen volunteering in a legal observer / ICE-watch role. A role in which volunteers respond legally to document ICE activity, armed with nothing more than a camera, a whistle, and a strong sense of Justice.
In response to this and the ongoing criminal violence committed by ICE and this Administration, there will be many actions happening this weekend under the title “ICE Out for Good” or #ICEOutForGood.
This is a wonderful toolkit full of amazing resources—including how to plan an event, knowing your rights as a protester, and finding a protest near you. Here is the event map on Mobilize to find locations.
Here are some other ways you can take action on this issue:
Donate to your local immigration rights organization, especially if they operate a Rapid Response Network or an ICE Watch / Legal Observer program. Or consider supporting the Immigrant Defense Network as encouraged by Indivisible.
Use the DemCast USA’s Social Media Toolkit to help spread the word about #ICEOutforGood.
Contact your representatives about the violence of ICE in our communities. As always, the 5 Calls App is such a helpful tool with great scripts you can use to call.
Learn more about ICE Watch / Legal Observer / Rapid Response Networks. Consider volunteering for one; we certainly plan to continue the work with ours!

Save the Date! Upcoming Larger Events
We the People Dissent is a great resource for staying up to date on all the protests and events coming up; here are a few dates for larger events to put into your calendar. More details can be found here.

National Day of Direct Action: February 17th

Many local and ongoing protests are happening weekly as well. These organizations may be helpful in finding protest locations:
Resistbot Emails to Representatives
Resistbot is a tool to quickly send emails to your representatives. Text Resist to 50409 to set up your free profile.
Emails are much less effective than calling (I have seen some estimate that one call is worth ten emails), but with Resistbot templates it is so fast it is worth doing in addition to calling.
I often will be able to send these emails while I make calls using The 5 Calls App.
Here is a guide I have put together on how to use the “Following” feature on Resistbot to turn this minimal-effort action into an almost zero-effort action! (Note to people reading on 1/9/2026: the guide is currently being updated, so check back in a few days. ☺️)
If you are looking for more frequent updates on unique actions to take, or for phone scripts different from the 5 Calls App, you may want to consider Chop Wood, Carry Water or Rogan's List .
I am grateful you are here.
Thank you,
Chris
