Welcome to the Dandelion Newsletter; here I hope to share direct actions, inspiration, and reflections for anyone drawn to mindful nonviolent activism.
Times have been challenging in 2025, so much is happening, and many of us have felt stressed, overwhelmed, and at a loss for what to do.
However, many of us have also felt drawn to action, bravery, and rising to the occasion.
We must take action. We must be involved. And, we must nourish ourselves to better be able to be involved. In turn, our involvement can also nourish ourselves, and align our lives with our ideals.
My mindful and spiritual practices have been the source of rest, nourishment, and energy needed to be able to take as much action as possible. Without it, I was burnt out before I even began. It is in the spirit of this nourishment I share this newsletter.
My inspiration draws heavily on Thich Nhat Hanh’s vision for Engaged Buddhism, carried on by the Plum Village tradition. My inspiration also comes from many other people and perspectives from all walks of life.
As I have sat at the window in my living room where I meditate, I have been watching the dandelions. Some say they are weeds, yet their beauty and tenacity inspire me. To see how they rise proudly, and then quickly spread their messages across the lawn; we can learn a lot from them.
Dandelions arise and disperse quicker than even a watchful eye can stop. They are “disruptive” yet nonviolent. They do not conform, but offer beauty to the world. Furthermore, they draw their strength from the sun, rain, earth, and the dandelions before them — and because of that, despite the efforts of some, they are unstoppable.
Thank you for joining us,
Chris
